Inbreeding depression cannot be purged in Leavenworthia alabamica

Role

PhD Student, Project Lead

I inbred plants for three generations and tested if inbreeding depression could be purged. Across seven life stages spanning germination rate to pollen viability, inbreeding depression was not purged. Therefore, a period of purging is unlikely to decrease inbreeding depression and trigger an evolutionary shift where selfing would be favoured in this species.
